In the cover story, we are honored to have an interview with Thai rock band ‘Slot Machine,’ which had been invited to perform in SUPER SLIPPA 2016, a music festival in Taiwan. In addition to sharing what they saw in Taiwan, they also further explained their firm belief and how they rocked the world with the power of music and put Thailand on the world stage.

Recently, Thailand is suddenly drawing a lot of attention because Taiwan is promoting a new southbound policy aimed at strengthening economic and political ties with Southeast Asian countries. I’ve been frequently asked this same question: “Is it good to relocate to Thailand?”

Allow me to grumble a little. I received plenty of concerns when I first came to Thailand. “Aren’t you doing well in Taiwan? Why do you want to move to Thailand, a country with hot weather, dirty food, inefficiency, poor security,” and all kinds of negative comments.

After living in Thailand for a while, I’ve realized that there are indeed some problems, but there is no such thing as a perfect place. Taiwan used to think of Thailand as an underdeveloped country in the past and now regards Thailand as a promised land full of new opportunities. The above scenario highlights the narrow-mindedness often seen in our society. I think it’s time to think outside the box! If you see things objectively, you will realize that if there be light, then there is darkness; if chance, risk; if good, bad.

“Is it good to relocate to Thailand?” This question is too broad. It depends on what you would like to do and how you plan to do it. Plus, your personalities, backgrounds, etc. should be taken into consideration as well. On the other hand, it shouldn’t be a simple yes-no question. If one day we can change our mindsets and get rid of “black or white thinking”, maybe we will be able to gain a new perspective.

Perhaps just like what I’ve learned from Slot Machine: Find your values and show your best to the world!
